5 Reasons Why I Am Quitting Social Media
Is it the end of the social media era? Absolutely not.
But for me and my business, yes!
There are things that I do love about social media, and also things I do not.
I came to this decision based on my business needs and what works best for my business.
If you love posting on social media, great! I still highly encourage it for people who do enjoy it and find success.
In this blog post I am going to go over the reasons I personally am quitting social media and what my alternative to this is.
If posting on social media is not for you, I think you will enjoy this post! :)
When I was using social media for my main marketing strategy, I quickly became burnt out.
I have never been one who likes to be the center of attention.
When I started my business, a lot of creators were saying how you need to be on social media to grow your business.
And I believed it, I tried it, and quickly realized I did not like it. Making videos talking to the screen just was not for me.
No shame to the millions of people who do like to show their face on social media, it's just not my cup of tea.
Even though I did not enjoy it, I truly believed it was the only way to grow my business so I stuck to it, and quickly got burnt out and thought this business was not for me.
I took a long break from my business after this.
I began researching again, other ways I can do this and I came to realize that this is MY business.
The reason I started it is because I wanted freedom and I wanted to do things my way.
Creating content is a full time job.
If you love content creation, this will not be an issue for you.
When you are doing things you do not enjoy, the task seems longer and harder.
For me social media was long and hard, I had to drag myself to create.
When I am writing blog posts, I love it and can write really fast.
I can get blog posts up way quicker than I can create content.
Like I said before, posting on social media works for a lot of people, but if you are anything like me, you might like my methods more.
I am an introvert.
I love to be in my house. I love to read and do hobbies at home. I would much rather do activities at home vs going out.
And I feel the same way in my business. I prefer the behind the scenes tasks.
I enjoy sitting at my desk and writing blog posts. I even enjoy creating graphics!
It’s just the content creation and short form videos that I struggled with.
I found a better alternative that works for me.
I’m sure you are wondering now, what my better alternative to social media is.
And my answer is blogging & Pinterest
Now I know what you are thinking, Pinterest is social media.
Yes, Technically it is, BUT it is a softer form of social media.
You do not have to make short form videos and post content the same way as other social media platforms.
I’ll go more into detail into this in a minute.
When I say social media, I am referring to Instagram, Facebook, Tiktok, Youtube.
These platforms take a lot of time to create content. I know this because I did it for years.
I created my own content for my brand, and I also did social media marketing for other brands.
What goes into creating social media content:
Brainstorming content ideas
Creating the graphics
Creating short form videos
Creating captions
Creating a marketing strategy
Scheduling the content
Being consistent
Interacting with your audience
As you can see, this can be a lot of work and overwhelming for some people.
Other people love it and enjoy the creating process, but I am not that person.
The difference between this type of social media posting and Pinterest, is with Pinterest, you are linking a pin to a blog post or to your website.
This is big because you are sending someone directly to your site.
With content creation on other social media platforms, you direct your audience to your bio and give instructions on what to do next.
Pinterest is a search engine which means if someone wants to know “Social media strategies” or “blueberry pie recipes”, they can go straight to the blog post.
So even though either way you will be creating content, you can choose to create short form videos, posting on stories, etc. or you can choose to write blog posts and connect your posts through Pinterest.
I believe both are successful. You can choose which one works best for you and your business.
Which ever one speaks to you more, try it for 3 months and see how it goes.
“Pinterest is oldschool”
This is not true at all. Yes it has been around for a while, but it is still very relevant. It may just be a more quiet, soft form of social media.
When it comes to blogging, Pinterest is one of the top ways to gain traffic to your blog.
“No one will see my posts”
It is important to note that Pinterest is very different from other platforms.
It takes different strategies to be successful.
The cool thing about it is, you may not get traffic right away, but once you do, your content floats around a lot longer.
Think about it. With Reels or Tiktoks, you’ll get a lot of views on a video the first day and after that it becomes less and less views (unless you get a viral video).
With Pinterest, you may not get as many views the day you post it, but once its out there it can stay relevant for YEARS.
This increases the chance of passive income for you because you will get constant traffic to your site.
